Answer: I have to admit that when I read your letter I thought to myself “This is the craziest thing I ever heard,” but when I checked my 1965 Buick service manual I was shocked. You’re going to love this one! You have to remove the entire outer door skin to access anything that needs servicing inside of your doors. The skin is held on by a series of nuts along the inside of the door.
Make sure that anything that is connected to the outer door skin, such as your remote control mirror cable, is disconnected. The last thing you want is to be holding the painted door skin of your car in one hand while disconnecting the mirror control with the other hand. I would also recommend that you have some soft padded surface ready on which to place the door skin once it’s removed.
